WILLOW l ACRYLIC l MASKS l TAPESTRIES
My newest artwork, the ENCAUSTICS, began with an idea for a new tableau with woven copper as a central plaque, symbolizing an encasement for written ancient stories passing on to current generations. This turned out to be only the beginning as artifacts, figures and birds also found their way into the work.
Am I having fun? YES. The new pieces have a lightheartedness that comes with age and perspective on life…for myself anyway I have discovered this to be the truth.
The ENCAUSTIC medium is bees wax, dry pigments and damar resin crystals melted together and applied to the surface in multi layers. My techniques include carving, scraping, painting and art transfers. ENCAUSTIC paintings are extremely archival in normal conditions. Temperatures over 120 degrees, hot windows and freezing cold should be avoided. Polish with a soft cloth occasionally.
